Low Carb Mexican Food in Fort Worth
There are several low carb diets that have become increasingly popular as a result of a shift in modern dietitians understanding of a healthy and balanced diet. Some of the most popular Low Carb diets go by the following names:
• Atkins,
• Paleo,
• Keto,
• Banting,
These diets each have their own take on a low-carb lifestyle, and they vary quite widely, but there are a few things they all have in common:
A movement away from the belief that fatty foods are the biggest problem, tending to allow consumption of fats in moderation (and sometimes, even with no limitations!)
Very tightly regulated consumption of Carbohydrates. Starches and Sugars can only be consumed in very small quantities, so much so that even a few pieces of fruit can overdo your sugar intake for the day.
While we don’t cater specifically to any one diet, we understand that these decisions are an important part of our patron’s lifestyles, and we definitely try to be as accommodating as possible. Eating a low carb diet in Fort Worth can be tricky, and trying to find a low carb menu option at a Mexican restaurant is sometime nearly impossible, but for that reason, I’d love to highlight some of the delicious ways to eat Low Carb at Benitos’ Mexican Restaurant. These do require some creativity, but can be accomplished without too much trouble.
1. Low Carb Appetizers
We offer several low carb appetizers, including our Mexican Style shrimp cocktail – Cocktail de Camaron Shrimp, and some delicious guacamole, (although steer clear of the corn chips if low-carb is your goal.
2. Try one of our Salads
Wait! Hear me out! This is probably what you were expecting to hear, and hoping to avoid, but at Benito’s, a salad isn’t a leafy and green burden you have to tolerate in order to feel good about yourself and maintain your diet. Far from it! Our salads are packed with ground or shredded beef, chicken or shrimp cheese, avocado, sour cream and more! Simply ask your waiter to exclude the tortilla shell and the black beans, and your salad is a delicious and low-carb treat!
3. Low Carb Main Course Options
So this is probably the area that’s hardest to achieve a good balance of low carb and delicious, but here’s a great way to go about it:
Pick any of our meaty dishes, preferably not tortilla based. (We offer pan fried steak, chicken, beef or shrimp fajitas, stuffed poblano peppers (low carb and delicious!) and several fish options also.
Order a side of our fajita veggie mix for a delicious and low carb mix of fried peppers.
Order any of the following as a complement:
• Guacamole,
• Pico de gallo,
• Sour Cream,
• Cheese,
Remember, low carb diets have a pretty high fat tolerance, so you can enjoy the above in a guilt free way! You won’t even notice the absence of rice or beans!
4. Customize a takeout order!
Why not order a plate to go, (for example, one of our excellent fajita options) and simply transfer the toppings on to a low carb tortilla available at most grocery stores. These low carb tortillas are still pretty good, especially when warmed up and contain a fraction of the typical carb content. If you’re lucky enough to have a supplier near by, Cauliflower wraps are 0 carbs and still taste great when wrapped around our delicious authentic Mexican toppings. Just remember to stick to the meaty options, the peppers, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, etc. and avoid rice, beans, and tortillas.
I’m afraid all of our desserts stray into the high-carb area, so we can’t cater to your needs there, but using the above as a guideline you should be able to enjoy some authentic and delicious Mexican food without sacrificing your diet. Take some time to review our menu options, we’d love to see you soon!
